An autumn of grace

News from Ulysse, Julie and the children

Hello! Grab a coffee and make yourself comfortable: here is the story of our last few months. A true story, full of joyful twists, where on every page you can see the faithful hand of the Lord Jesus. Read it, pray with us… and tell us your story too!

Be blessed!

Chapter 1 · The family

Four secondary pupils and one heart

The new school year has begun, and with it a small revolution at home: we are now the parents of four secondary school pupils! We give thanks to the Lord for it. But what fills us with the greatest joy is not their report cards, it is their hearts. This summer, all four of them served as “Junior helpers” at the Vacation Bible Study of the International Baptist Church of Wezembeek-Oppem.

And the story does not end there. At our Bible meetings, each of them has found their place, according to their age:

Thanks and prayer

  • Thank you, Lord Jesus, for these four treasures you have entrusted to us. Keep them close to you, and may their commitment grow as they grow.
  • We bring before you the members of our families who do not yet know you, and especially Julie's father, a widower since the passing of Julie's stepmother last December. With all our hearts, we hope to see him turn to you one day.

Chapter 2 · The church

A Sunday at Lunch Garden

Every Sunday at 5 pm · Lunch Garden in Kraainem

Picture a restaurant on a Sunday at 5 pm. For a long time, we would gather over a meal to reflect on a Bible passage. Then the manager gave us a lovely surprise: a room fitted out on the first floor, made available to us at an affordable price. Since then, music fills the room and the Word is preached. Fellowship continues around the meal after the meeting, and quite often other customers come over, curious, and the conversation turns quite naturally to faith.

“Every new face is a gift from heaven to us.”

And the Lord keeps adding seats to our table. New people are joining our meetings: one person recently gave their life to Christ, and Christians from the area now come regularly.

Remember the Fête de la Musique? In June, just like last year, we were part of it 🎶. The music opened doors: wonderful encounters, notably with committed Catholics, some of whom now drop in to see us at Lunch Garden.

Other ideas are already taking root: embroidery workshops and conversation tables in French, and perhaps in other languages too, depending on everyone's availability. And further afield, we continue to support evangelism in Africa through African Enterprise.

And during the week? Thanks to the church's non-profit association, pupils are regaining confidence in the CE1D exam subjects (the end-of-lower-secondary certificate) through our tutoring programme, and Dutch should soon join the adventure.

Thanks and prayer

  • Thank you, Lord, for this room, for the music, for the concert being prepared and for every new face.
  • Help each of us grow in maturity, so that we may fully live out our faith together, as a true church family.
  • May our witness touch hearts in Wezembeek-Oppem and Kraainem, and may the Christmas concert be a celebration where many meet you.

Chapter 3 · Vivement la Parole

The Word, live

During the week, our Bible-sharing times 📖 are streamed live on YouTube and Facebook. After some six months walking through the Gospel of Matthew, we are now immersed in the book of Isaiah, its promises and its hope.

Some members of the group have been through trials recently. And yet they are there, faithful, week after week. What a beautiful lesson in perseverance!

Thanks and prayer

  • Thank you, Lord, for every person committed to this ministry: it is through them that you carry us.
  • Use these live broadcasts to reach new people, wherever they are, and lead them to you.
  • Fully restore our companions who are going through trials.

Chapter 4 · U'HOPE COMPANY

Doors that open

There are seasons when you knock at a door for a long time. And then, one day, it opens a crack. With South Africa, projects are moving forward again, and we give thanks to the Lord for it.

And the good surprises keep coming: U'HOPE received an award at the Benelux Enterprise Awards, then was nominated for the Business Circle awards and for the Trends Impact Award 2025. Three unexpected recognitions of our commitment to education, which make our work known ever further afield. To God be the glory!

Thanks and prayer

  • Thank you, Lord, for the projects moving forward in South Africa. Keep opening doors, there and in Central Africa.
  • May our work in Belgium be recognised by the authorities, so that it can be rolled out on a large scale to the families who need it.
  • Make U'HOPE's influence in education grow 🌍, so that ever more pupils receive quality education, wherever they are.

Chapter 5 · U'HOPE DONATION

Serving in other ways (formerly AJM)

This year, the boxes of medicines have not yet set off. But U'HOPE Donation has not stood still: we carried out social actions remotely and supported projects with our advice. And we keep our hands open and our hearts ready for the next shipment.

Our prayer

  • Thank you, Lord, for the social actions carried out remotely and for every piece of advice shared this year. Open new opportunities for us to send medicines to Africa and wherever the need is felt.

Chapter 6 · At work

Witnesses in everyday life

Ulysse

Ulysse continues to teach religion part-time in secondary school. In his classes there are young Christians and others who are not, and that is exactly where the most beautiful exchanges are born: sincere questions, lively debates, moments when faith becomes a real conversation. These encounters also help him better understand the reality of teachers 🎓 and feed into U'HOPE's development.

Julie

Julie continues her work at the FPS Public Health, with flexible hours ⏰ that are a real blessing for organising family life.

Thanks and prayer

  • Thank you, Lord Jesus, for our workplaces, where you place us every day.
  • Help us to be true witnesses of Christ, honouring you through the quality of our work and through relationships full of respect and kindness with our colleagues.
  • Bless Ulysse's exchanges with his pupils, Christian or not: may your light reach them.
